Are You Coachable?

Welcome to In the Lead

Welcome to the first In the Lead blog.  This blog offers simple suggestions to help leaders be more effective.  We offer insights to help leaders lead from within

Leading from within is the mindful practice of understanding who you are, defining how you want to show up, and then using this insight to connect with those you lead.  This happens when you determine what drives and engages each team member and helps them fulfill their calling.  By doing so, leaders fulfill their own calling:  engaging others in the accomplishment of the firm’s mission.

Leading from within begins with deep self-awareness – knowing one’s strengths and shortcomings and, more importantly, knowing how one is perceived by others.  The leader uses this insight to connect with others to help them leverage all the talents of their team.

The self-aware leader is constantly scanning the environment to ask:  How could I have been more effective today?  How can I help others be more engaged tomorrow?  What is the organization asking me to do to bring out everyone’s best self?

What questions are you asking yourself each day when reflecting upon your own performance?  What methods are you using to make sure your self-insights match others’ insights of your capabilities?

Look for suggestions in the weeks to come on how to develop these self-awareness habits.
